Innovative Development of Frontier Fluids Engineering based on Functional Fluids Research

The research on the functional fluids has been started on the magnetic fluid research at Institute of Fluid Science, Tohoku University at the end of 1980. It has been developing to the research on ER MR fluids, plasma flow and functional multiphase flow for less than 30 years. The OS, WS, cutting edge technical forum, the relating international conferences and two research committees have been actively organized in the JSME FED, so far. Furthermore, the book and the handbook on functional fluids have been published and the intellectual properties have been accumulated. The research on functional fluids has been playing the role to form the frontier research field in the fluids engineering.

We are facing the generation alternation for functional fluids research now. Therefore, the objective of the present WS is to renew the community with young scientists and to develop the “Inovative Frontier Fluids Engineering” by the fusion with different research area, clear commitment to society and research globalization through the establishment of pass way from the fundamental, the applications to the practical realization, based on the firm research results of functional fluids till now.
